Chemist and environmental engineer; mountaineer, 91
Alfred F. (Al) Tatyrek passed away on March 28, 2021 in Maplewood, NJ at the age of 91. Born in Hillside, NJ in 1930, to Frank P. and Frances Tatyrek (Luxa), Al had a successful career as a chemist and environmental engineer. He earned a BS Degree at Seton Hall University (1954) and Postgraduate Degree from Rutgers University (1956-7). Al was employed as a research chemist at the Bakelite division of Union Carbide (1953-58) and US Radium Corp. (1958-62), an analytical chemist with the US Army (1962-64), a research chemist with the US Army Armament Research & Engineering Centre at Picatinny Arsenal (1964-1973), and a chemical materials engineer with the US Army Armament Research Development and Engineering Center (1973-95). He holds several US patents and contributed to over 50 science and technology publications. He was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in Technology Today and American Men and Women of Science and three times elected the president of the Picatinny chapter of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society.
An experienced mountaineer, Al led climbing expeditions in the US, Canada, Europe, and Africa including Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, Mont Blanc, and peaks in the Peruvian Andes in South America and in the Northern Cascades in Washington State. He was a senior member of the National Ski Patrol, the Alpine Club of Canada, the Appalachian Mountain Club and the Sierra Club. He was a first aid instructor with the American Red Cross in Essex County, a certified NAUI scuba diver, and participated in underwater photography expeditions in the Caribbean and South Pacific coral reefs. Last, but certainly not least, Al was a skilled magician and lifetime member of the International Magicians Society.

Al was laid to rest beside his parents at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, NJ on Thursday, April 1, 2021.

Charles Fred Tatyrek was born February 18, 1930 in Willow, Oklahoma to Fannie (Dudek) Tatyrek and Robert Tatyrek. He passed away June 6, 2019 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 19 days.

Charles grew up in Willow, Oklahoma and attended school at Ocina High School graduating in 1948. He entered the United States Army on August 5, 1950 and served in Japan during the Korean War. Charles was later married to Loretta Rae (Ellison) Tatyrek on October 30, 1951 at the Methodist Church in Sayre, Oklahoma. After their marriage they remained in Spring Creek and together with his dad he built Loretta's house in 1951 - 1952. Charles worked various jobs as a mud mixer for a mason, furniture store employee, carpenter and a custodian at Beckham County Court House up until 1960 when he surrendered to preach in 1960. He began preaching at Durham Baptist Church in 1964 to 1966 and then at Spring Creek where he continued until 2019. Charles was a faithful man of God and served in the jail ministry, served 2 terms on Oklahoma Baptist Child Care, ministerial alliance and also served as the president of the Western Fraternal Lodge. Charles was a man of God and up until his last days he prayed for his family, his extended family, his church family, community, our nation and the lost to accept Jesus Christ as their savior. He never met a stranger and if he did by the time he shook their hand, they were never a stranger after that meeting. Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, but his passion in life was witnessing and telling others about Jesus Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Fannie Tatyrek, 3 grandsons, Christopher Thomas Tatyrek, Charles Lea Tatyrek and Trevor Levi Tatyrek.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Loretta; 2 children, Leon Tatyrek and wife, Kim, Sayre, OK and Janet Tatyrek, Bowie, TX; 2 grandchildren, Shawn Tatyrek and wife, Carrie, Oklahoma City, OK, Cameron Carter, Lawton, OK; great grandchildren, Easton Tatyrek, Lori Pennington and Logan Pennington; 1 brother, Edward Tatyrek, Lawton, OK; 3 sisters, Marie Cargill and husband, Herb, Oklahoma City, OK, Helen Millington, Sayre, OK and Ruth Tatyrek, Oklahoma City, OK and a host of other family, church family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that you send donations to Oklahoma Baptist Childrens Home, 3800 North May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73112.

Services will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2019, 2:00 PM at Spring Creek Baptist Church officiated by Matt Riggs. Burial will be at the Spring Creek Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.

Janet Tatyrek was born June 13th, 1960 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Charles Fred and Loretta Rae (Ellison) Tatyrek. She passed away Saturday, May 16th, 2020 at her home at the age of 59 years, 11 months and 3 days.

Janet grew up in the Delhi community and attended school at Delhi in the first and second grade and then started at Sayre in the third grade and continued until her graduation in 1978. She furthered her education at Talequah, Oklahoma at Northeastern State University and later at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma where she majored in Education. After receiving her bachelors degree she obtained her masters at West Texas A&M in December of 1997. She began her student teaching in Okarche and her first teaching job in Fredrick, Oklahoma. Janet later moved to Texas where she held teaching positions at Nacona, Mobeetie and Ft. Elliott. It was at Ft. Elliott where she spent the majority of her time serving as a principal. Janet retired in 2011 and moved to Bowie, Texas where she began substitute teaching at Montgue and Bowie. Some of her happiest times were recently when she was able to teach her great nephew, Easton. Janet was a teacher by trade but spent many hours coaching basketball and kids that she saw ability. She also enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents on both sides, father, Charles and 3 nephews, Thomas Tatyrek, Charles Lea Tatyrek and Trevor Levi Tatyrek.

She is survived by her mother, Loretta Tatyrek, Sayre, OK; 1 brother, Leon Tatyrek and wife, Kim, Sayre, OK; 2 nephews, Shawn Tatyrek and wife, Carrie, Oklahoma City, OK and Cameron Carter, Sayre, OK; 2 great nephews, Easton Tatyrek and Logan Pennington; 1 great niece, Lori Pennington; special family, Stacy Gamblin and husband, James, Bowie, TX and their children, Abbi Gamblin, Cooper Gamblin, Jordan Pigg and Taylor Pigg and Sonya Holder and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 21, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Spring Creek Baptist Church officiated by Brother Matthew Riggs. Arrangements are under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West.
