Charles Fred Tatyrek was born February 18, 1930 in Willow, Oklahoma to Fannie (Dudek) Tatyrek and Robert Tatyrek. He passed away June 6, 2019 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 19 days.
Charles grew up in Willow, Oklahoma and attended school at Ocina High School graduating in 1948. He entered the United States Army on August 5, 1950 and served in Japan during the Korean War. Charles was later married to Loretta Rae (Ellison) Tatyrek on October 30, 1951 at the Methodist Church in Sayre, Oklahoma. After their marriage they remained in Spring Creek and together with his dad he built Loretta's house in 1951 - 1952. Charles worked various jobs as a mud mixer for a mason, furniture store employee, carpenter and a custodian at Beckham County Court House up until 1960 when he surrendered to preach in 1960. He began preaching at Durham Baptist Church in 1964 to 1966 and then at Spring Creek where he continued until 2019. Charles was a faithful man of God and served in the jail ministry, served 2 terms on Oklahoma Baptist Child Care, ministerial alliance and also served as the president of the Western Fraternal Lodge. Charles was a man of God and up until his last days he prayed for his family, his extended family, his church family, community, our nation and the lost to accept Jesus Christ as their savior. He never met a stranger and if he did by the time he shook their hand, they were never a stranger after that meeting. Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, but his passion in life was witnessing and telling others about Jesus Christ.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Fannie Tatyrek, 3 grandsons, Christopher Thomas Tatyrek, Charles Lea Tatyrek and Trevor Levi Tatyrek.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Loretta; 2 children, Leon Tatyrek and wife, Kim, Sayre, OK and Janet Tatyrek, Bowie, TX; 2 grandchildren, Shawn Tatyrek and wife, Carrie, Oklahoma City, OK, Cameron Carter, Lawton, OK; great grandchildren, Easton Tatyrek, Lori Pennington and Logan Pennington; 1 brother, Edward Tatyrek, Lawton, OK; 3 sisters, Marie Cargill and husband, Herb, Oklahoma City, OK, Helen Millington, Sayre, OK and Ruth Tatyrek, Oklahoma City, OK and a host of other family, church family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that you send donations to Oklahoma Baptist Childrens Home, 3800 North May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73112.
Services will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2019, 2:00 PM at Spring Creek Baptist Church officiated by Matt Riggs. Burial will be at the Spring Creek Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
